I've seen a few educators break down this software on youtube with simple, fun intro assignments, and a couple people on skillshare - but that's few and far between. The lack of consistency makes it hard to assign these as teaching modules. Some videos are 10+ minutes, and others are 2-3 minutes with several steps. The pacing is not universal either - some instructors are verbose and others zip through tutorials, and it's the luck of the draw as to what you get. I'm seeing a lot of students face frustration that I do not personally observe in comparison to learning something say, like Aftereffects.Īs a result, I've spent a lot of time creating my own tutorials in efforts to break down this software in a way that I'm really not seeing being done - and by that I mean, make it VERY approachable to a wider audience.Īdditionally, the audio quality of the tutorials on the Learn.Toonboom platform vary WILDLY, and is not professionally done.
We've been teaching Toonboom for a couple years now, and while I fully understand it's the industry standard, I am consistently frustrated with the dated and confusing interface in the application and learning portal - (example illustration from the learning portal here which looks like it's straight out of the 90s) (This kind of interface and illustration is a turn-off for people who grew up after the internet was invented) In addition to animation, I teach graphic design, using the Adobe Creative Cloud software. I work in education and teach animation at a community college - which means I teach a cross section of people from 14 year olds to 60 and up.
